Pixelmator App Reviews

Now My Only Drawing App for iOS <3

I have tried SO many drawing applications for iOS and my search ends here. Pixelmator for iOS is an amazing drawing application! It has a nice -- but not overwhelming -- array of brushes. It works wonderfully with the Apple Pencil on the iPad Pro; the app and tools feel made for each other. Even my non-artist partner tried them and was wowed. While the interface is not AS intuitive to me as the interfaces of some other applications, it is easy to learn and makes sense. I make fewer interface-accident-based errors than I do with some of the more intuitive-interface applications. The fact images can go to my Mac via iCloud -- and are compatible in Pixelmator for Mac -- is definitely a plus, too. I have never really left Photoshop for Pixelmator on the Mac, but the excellence of the iOS application does spur me to poke around Pixelmator for Mac more. As I said, I have tried numerous drawing applications for iOS over the years, frequently keeping many on my iPhone and iPad. Finally, I have just one: Pixelmator. :-)

UNDO BRUSH

You should allow us to use the "restore" brush every time that we want to, sometimes I just want to undo some Applied effect in my job, and its not allowed because I had already leaved the distort mode. Its a good app but should allow us to do more with it.

A Wonderful Addition to the Toolbox

Yes, the interface is a bit cumbersome, but Pixelmator is packed with features. It seems most of the poor review are from folks who are looking for yet another app packed with dozens of filters, where dropping $5 really would be a big splurge. This is not one of those apps. But if youre looking for an image program that can open up Photoshop files with layers, this is your app. If you need an app that supports layer styles (including strokes, color overlays, gradients, drop shadows, and blending modes), masking with feathering, smart shapes, healing tools, distortion tools, painting ability with over 100 brushes and smudge tools, along with a smart collection of color and level adjustment tools, all in one app, this is a great choice. And it even has some nice filters. Just not hundreds of them. ;)

TERRIBLE

I USE EDITING FOR MY EDITING ACC (NE.GFX) AND I THINK ITS NOT WORTH IT. TERRIBLE

Basically Photoshop for your iPhone

Enough said

Its like a mini photoshop

One of my most favorite apps! You can do such a crazy stuff with it once you start playing around!

7 steps from perfection

This is easily one of the most powerful & feature packed photo editors Ive ever found on a mobile device, & they update it often with lots of enhancements. The latest update is fantastic. It is missing many of the advanced features from the Mac version, but it is much more simple to use. However, there are still some areas that could use improvement... 1) There should be a persistent toggle button for each layer for off/on for quick comparisons before and after edits on each layer. Right now every toggle requires at least two taps per layer. It should be one. 2) The painting tools need to have a permanent on screen shortcut for adjusting brush size & opacity, rather than making you tap through menus every time you need to adjust it. Thats way too slow when drawing. 3) The photo collage tool only has 6 templates available, and there is no way to adjust the layout options. So for example, if you want a grid of four photos all the exact same size, there is no way to do that. Most apps offer dozens of templates, and you can adjust the dividers between photos to customize the stock layouts. 4) For more serious photo editors, a screen record feature to playback workflow edits would be massively helpful to show friends how Pixelmators tools helped transform the original photo into your finished version. 5) The Transform tool doesnt allow you to select only the text layer and skew the perspective. So for example, if you wanted to create some Star Wars text that appears to shrink as it goes off into the distance (trapezoid shape), you cant do it. 6) The only way to rotate a canvas is by going into the settings and using a slider. Almost every other app allows rotation using two fingers on the screen. This is far quicker for drawing than having to navigate through menus. 7) Each layer needs an option for Selecting everything on that layer. That would make it much easier to edit the whole layer than trying to fine tune one of the other Selection tools. With these 7 features added, this would be a 5 star app and would enable me to get rid of every other photo app out there.

The best iOS image editing and drawing app!

Simply excellent

Dope

I like the new selection tools, keep doing the innovation and bring Pixelmator (mac) to ios and you would be FINE

Bad Update

This latest update nuked my paintings. Why release something that wasnt QAd properly? Dont use this until they fix their shipt. -p

Impressive

The new selection and editing tools are... Impressive.

Absolutely amazing. Everybody should own this app.

The minute I opened Pixelmator, all of my desktop projects in iCloud were there. Aside from an image size limitation I encountered, the functionality was smooth and powerful. This is a great app with with a great design. It looks and just like the desktop version. This interface so perfectly captures Apples app aesthetic that you could be forgiven for assuming that Pixelmator had been acquired by Apple. Ive been using Photoshop Touch for about a year now, and now that Pixelmator is here I can say: Never again! Are you paying attention Adobe? This is how its done. Bravo, dev team. Im looking forward to future updates and a the possibility of an iPhone version as well. The only thing I hope to see updated is the image size limitation. I dont know exactly what that limit is, or whether it is device-specific. I have an iPad 3 (the first retina model).

An Essential App

Pixelmator is one of my essential apps. I use it on my Mac and iPad and love them both.

ehhh

my immediate take on this app is that it doesnt do anything new and its just the same kind of editing and painting available in other apps I already have. and these other apps do it a little better imo. give yourself awhile to get used to the UI, cause its not very intuitive - at least its not unless youre thinking in terms Apple Pages as a painting app, then I guess its solid. maybe if I spend more time with it I might find more unique characteristics that set it apart from the rest, or at least bring it side by side. but Im not holding my breath. *this app made me think that the App Store, for all of its similarly developed apps that deserve some stark comparisons ought to offer trial periods or the ability to "return" an app for App Store credit. its impossible to know what works better for what youre doing unless you buy (rent .. we never actually own any app. Ive had one or two that I used very often disappear only to return asking for more money) and absorb the cost of experimentation. something should be changed about the commitment to apps - at least those that are used for production (games I suppose should be at your own risk).

Improving with each new release

Ive been using this app since it first released. I do not find it as intuitive or easy to use as my other long-trusted other apps (Photogene, Snapsee, Procreate, iDraw). It has an interface that in many ways is much like Apples Numbers & Keynote Apps, which is either good or bad depending on ones tastes. There are certain things this app does which my others either do not do at all, or do not do so easily (healing, is very easy in this app for example, the improved selection tools are great!). Each new release I find the additional features give me even more reasons to use this app on my iPad Pro. I also have the Mac version of this - love the iCloud integration which lets me work on the same file from either device. Thanks to the developers for their passion, hard work, and persistence!

Actually went backwards

I was hoping for a program close to the one on the Mac. What I got was a horrible impression. Come on guys, create a version thats on par with the Desktop version.

Superior iOS Photo Editing App

My kind of app — small, dedicated and experienced team. When a problem comes up they redirect all resources to solving the issue. I own the Mac and iOS software and believe it is not just superior software, but also an excellent value. The updated iOS app running on an iPad Pro makes me struggle to not make a mess all over the gorgeous 13" screen.

Needs More Fonts

Love the app but it needs more fonts

Best Ive Used

Pixelmator is a really outstanding, and one of the best application on my iPad Pro. I use it to clean up and re-size images for my job, and it has handled everything Ive ever asked it to do.

Poor

The app is not ready for release yet. Magic select is poor. Manual select has its own mind. Wait until it is updated before buying.
